The summer of 2007 hosted our second Summer Performance Camp. Thirty children, aged 6-13 enjoyed a fun camp-filled summer while working on a wonderful end-of-camp production of Disney's "The Jungle Book Kids". When the children were not rehearsing, they took part in drama games, dancing, singing, drumming, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and countless other exciting activities. Every week offered fun theme days such as the unforgettable pirate day and superhero day! The children performed to excited audiences at the Belle River Marina and the Tecumseh Corn Festival. |

Really Rosie...
Book and Lyrics by Maurice Sendak. Music by Carole King. Rosie, the sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn's Avenue P, entertains herself and her friends by acting out show biz fantasies, notably directing and starring in an Oscar winning movie. Written by the author and illustrator of Where the Wild Things Are and other popular children's books, Really Rosie is a jewel for children and adults.
"There is such juicy vitality, such insouciant grace, such frolicking exploration of the waist high jungle of childhood.... You will regret not being able to wrap up a large chunk of the proceedings and take them home with you."-- New York Magazine.
Beanie...
Beanie Boren, a science wiz who is not keen on reading, has designed a book reading machine for the science fair. It combines a computer, a mini video cam and a contraption of his own design to enable one to read three books at once. Unfortunately, the machine is neither user friendly nor bug free. When Beanie turns it on, lights flash, thunder booms and out pop the witches from Snow White, Hansel and Gretel and the The Wizard of Oz, each set to wreak havoc! Beanie must get them back into the books with help from the good guys in the same stories. Afterward, he is eager to read about his new friends-- the old fashioned way.

In the summer of 2006, THE SPACE offered its first Summer Performance Camp which involved 34 children from 3-14 years of age preparing the sets, props, costumes, and performances of "HONK!" a musical adaptation of The Ugly Duckling. HONK was performed at The Belle River Marina, Colasanti's and at Tecumseh's Cornfest to appreciative crowds in each venue. The camp itself was sold out, and the campers and their parents found much value in our summer program. "I've been sending my kids to camp for 17 years, and this was the best investment I've ever made," one parent said. |

In February 2005, THE SPACE mounted its first full-scale musical, 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' at the Knights of Columbus, Emeryville as a dinner theatre for three weekends. The audience response was overwhelming, and the show began to sell-out. Due to its success, the production toured to Mackenzie Hall, did a benefit performance for Hospice's Volunteer Appreciation Night, and completed the run at the Pelee Island Summer Theatre to sold out audiences.
'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' established THE SPACE as an exciting new theatre company, producing lesser-known Off Broaday musicals to the community. THE SPACE received many accolades from this production: "… the best quality show I've seen in Windsor," and "… better than the professional production I saw in Detroit" are among the testimonials, and also had an enthusiastic audience member write a testimonial in the Windsor Star. THE SPACE also received the 'Hospice Volunteer Business/Community Group Recognition' award in September 2006. |
